Buffy The Vampire "Wish"

Buffy The Vampire Season 3, Episode 9 " Wish"

                                                How Cordelia faces getting hurt
This episode started off with Willow and Xander explaining to Buffy about how guilty they feel when they got caught kissing each other.  They both are trying to explain why Cordelia and Oz shouldn't be upset and how they are going to try and talk to them. the episode was mainly focused on Cordelia and how she was hurt from that and how she wished Buffy never went to Sunnydale. The wish ended up becoming true and Sunnydale is completely different.
This episode did show a lot about how society treats genders differently depending on the situation. The whole school ended up picking on Cordelia when she came back. they all started making jokes about her and having gotten cheated on demolished her title. Xander got nothing for cheating and everyone's joke made him sound like he was the man. Also, there was a big difference in how Oz handled it and how Cordelia handled it.

Oz was seen just getting an apology from willow and him not wanting to talk to her and that's really all the action we got from him. Whereas Cordelia was shattered you saw her cut pictures of everyone and she even started wearing real dark clothing and her whole mood just changed. She even tried making it seem like she was over it but that just made her look more heartbroken. The Deman fairy thing also showed that cause she only helps teenage girls, not boys. She told Giles that she kills the boys who summon her.  Kind of implying girls get hurt worst than guys through a breakup.

The monster also looked like a popular girl and tries her best to be nice when she was around the Cordelia. Even siding with her saying Xander deserves anything bad that happens to him. I also believe that when Cordelia made her wish she didn't even blame Xander she blamed Buffy for being hurt. Even if it was Xander's fault clearly cause they were his own actions nobody else.

  1. I liked how you looked at the ways in which the characters handled breakups. I agree that it's weird how society see's the way boys handle breakups and cheating versus the way girls do. Your blog makes me want to watch this episode to see how everything plays out.
