Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Season 2, Episode 5)

During the start of this episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 2 Episode 5; Buffy is exhausted from all of the slayer training and ditches Giles. This would lead to Buffy and Cordelia go to a college frat party. During this party, Cordelia and Buffy get separated, which would cause both of them to be roofied, and then captured by a cultist group of college students. Theses students are the cause for all of the missing teenage girls; this cult group warship some type of reptile creature, such as the title of the episode "Reptile Boy". This would lead to an attempted rescue from Angle and Xander, although when they get there Buffy has gotten herself and Cordelia, free from the situation.

While watching the scenes of the party, and near sexual assault, when Buffy was put into a position that was dangerous for any young lady at a "party". Although it was stopped before anything happened, although the viewer still got the thought through their minds, of the "What if, that other frat brother didn't stop him.." Throughout the episode, it relates to the dangers of being separated from a friend and the potential dangers of that happening. Although Buffy does prevail after being kidnapped, and she shows her strength and cool-headedness to keep her friend and the other young lady out of harm's way.
Near sexual assault
During the few scenes, we see where Buffy, Cordelia, and another unidentified you lady are in the basement of the fraternity's home, we have the images of them being chained to the wall. These actions would have the frat brothers seem to be empowering over the ladies. Although the ladies do get out of these predicaments it was still a sight to see how Buffy was helpless for a few short minutes. While the reptile boy is coming out to feed on theses ladies, we get to see the dangers of how a "preditor" can prey on easy targets. While Buffy is not an easy target what so ever, this would be lead to a safe hope of the fraternity brothers along with the reptile boy to think that they won. This would ultimately be wrong, and Buffy comes out on top and saves her friend.
Buffy and Cordelia in chains
The reptile boy, on the other hand, is a very ugly and frightening creature, which would cause fear into people which would lead to easy prey. While Buffy was not afraid of him, although shocked, Coredila, on the other hand, was horrified.  During this time the Angle and Xander attempted to come to the rescue of the damsel in "distress". While the ladies seem to be in a predicament they ultimately come up on top, with little to no help from the men. This would empower women to stand up for themselves in stressful and dangerous situations while protecting others. Towards the end of this episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the gang is reunited with each other, and the involved frat brothers are charged and kicked out of college, with little to no escape from their charges.

  1. Your connections in this blog were really well structured. I really like that connection that you stated with the reptile boy feeding on the girls that can be represented as a predator preying on easy targets related to real life situations.
